An impressive and colourful ceremony marking the VIP & PRESS Launch of Ghana Carnival 2013 took place at the foyer of the National Theatre, Ghana on Friday June 14 2013. The ceremony which was heralded by traditional drumming and cultural performance by the world acclaimed Susuma Pan African Dance Ensemble brought together key media networks, all major sponsors namely; Africa Cola, Indomie Instant Noodles, Kasapreko Alomo Bitters, Fiesta Condoms, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, La Pleasure Beach Resort, the Multi-Media Group as well as key partners including the UK Center for Carnival Arts, The Ghana Society UK, Ghana Caribbean Association, National Theatre of Ghana, Ghana Folklore Drum and Dance Union, Ghana Tourism Development Company and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
In his keynote address, a representative of the Ghana Centre for Carnival Arts Mr. Sam Dodoo told the gathering that the 2013 Ghana Carnival was a private sector initiative supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and other creative partners aimed at stimulating economic growth and creating jobs for thousands of youths in Ghana.
The Chairman for the occasion, Mr. Michael H. Attipoe, Director at the National Commission on Culture reiterated the economic importance of the carnival to the country and admonished the media to give adequate publicity to the event. Also present at the ceremony were Nana Churcher of the ‘Nana Churcher Show’ which runs on DSTV and Miss Linda Osei Opoku, 2011 Luton Carnival Queen. Other events lined up for the 2013 Ghana Carnival include a 2-Day Costume Design and Development Workshop for students of Takoradi and Accra Polytechnics on 25th & 26th June; Costume Launch at the Afrikiko Leisure Gardens on 28th June, the Grand Carnival & All Day Bazaar on 29th June and the After Party at the La Pleasure Beach on Sunday 30th June 2013. Top Ghanaian artistes are billed to perform at the event.
