SUMMARY:World Child Cancer
DESCRIPTION:As part of Ghana Society UK’s health initiatives\, they partner with World Child Cancer to raise awareness and fundraise to support children with cancer in Korle Bu and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospitals to enable the creation of a centre of excellence and improve the awareness of childhood cancers in Ghana to encourage earlier diagnosis. \nAround 1\,300 new cases of childhood cancer are expected in Ghana each year. Korle Bu & Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have been the main tertiary centers in Accra and Kumasi respectively in the country.\nThe number of cases diagnosed in Ghana is increasing each year as awareness of the disease increases\, and encouragingly\, these two have been the main referral centres to a growing network of units around the country.\nAccess to healthcare services is limited for much of the population so there remains a large number of children who are currently not able to access a diagnosis and may never receive any support.\nWorld Child Cancer have been working with partners in Ghana since 2007 to improve access to early diagnosis\, treatment and psychosocial support for children with cancer and their families.  \nTo find out more about their work\, visit: worldchildcancer.org
